Have you ever noticed how AI loves the header, “This Changes Everything.” If you are using AI for content creation it gets exhausting to deal with the hyperbole of Chat GPT (maybe Grok or Claude are more subtle?).
But maybe there is something about these times — like July’s uber-rare Barbault Basket— that heralds more than a small adjustment in our collective trajectory. Maybe AI monitors the collective response to “This Changes Everything” and notices that humans are hungry for radical change. That we are exhausted by the status quo.
That our light is dimming in the starkly polarized reality unfolding before us.
This duality overload can be observed in badly played war games, politicians becoming cartoonish, and even in the astrology community recently, a war has broken out over evolutionary astrology Steven Forrest’s gaffe on a podcast where he used the “N-word.” in a discussion of race and shadow. The antidote to me is Rumi: Beyond right doing and wrong doing is a field. I will meet you there.
But until the whole wide world becomes enlightened, this solar eclipse gives us some remedial lessons about loving kindness.
The Lion’s Heart and Our Human Vitality
We all know the phrase “lion-hearted” and respond immediately to most metaphors and aphorisms with cardiac angles.
Home is where the heart is.
Heart’s desire.
The heart of the matter
Heartfelt love
You get the point….
Leo, that big cat, is ruled by the Sun, that big ball of light in the dome of our daily sky.
Yet the sun is not just for tanning. It gives life to the earth herself. Nothing grows without the sun, humans included.
The sun is the soul’s reactor core, the central furnace of our true and eternal nature. In astrology, we can say it’s the spirit of who we are, while the ascendant is the character/body that this solar light shines through. The moon of course, is the reflector of the sun, and thus it is a false light. It is the matrix of the mind — the thinking and feeling parts of being a human.
Yet ask any Sufi and they will tell you that the deepest aspect of identity is the knowing heart. We can think and feel all we want (lunar qualities), but truth resides in the center of our being, in the spiritual heart that sits slightly to the right of the organ that beats in our anatomy.
When the solar light of our journey is activated, joy is one word that points to something real and true. Vitality is another word that matters.
We can aim for a life that is pleasurable (Venus) or wise (Saturn) or full of laughter (Mercury) or competitive (Mars) or spiritual (Jupiter).
Yet it is the sun alone that gives us a life infused with meaning and purpose, a life in which we are vitalized by playing our true role on this planet or dimension. We took on an incarnation, each of us, with a game plan. Astrology shows us that plan in the natal chart and eclipses jump start that plan, like it or not.
This eclipse shows us a portal to a lion hearted enthusiasm or life and all of its ups and downs.
This Eclipse is about the Light that revitalizes us, the solar beam shining brightly through the heart, into the world. We don’t have to save the world, be a famous celebrity, rule a country, to open our heart and shine our light.
But we do need to at least recognize that there is a part us all that retains a playful childlike innocence. And that playful innocence re-vitalizes us every time.
The Heart of the South Node Matter

We of course cannot simply walk off the day job, forgo our bills, and make our living immediately doing what we love.
Loving what we do matters, but maybe loving ourselves in the doing — no matter the nature of it — is what is most true.
The deeper story of the Leo total eclipse with a south node flavour is to simply let go of what de-vitalizes us, what drains the joy from our life. Removing the situations, people, habits and even thoughts that deplete us, frees up space for the inner radiance to return.
On today’s eclipse ask yourself what you are willing to let go of? And with Jupiter standing by like a wise Fairy God Father, he’s quite likely to bestow at least one HEARTFELT WISH.
Add Venus in Libra, powerfully alive in her home sign, forming a trine to Uranus in nimble Gemini, and you have a sky code for lucky happy and even prosperous surprises spinning off this eclipse day into the next week and even longer, throughout the next year.

Then go back to August 1990, specifically look at the six months that followed the August 6th lunar eclipse. It was not the same, not exactly. For one, the south node and Jupiter tracked together for a mere three months back then, not the whole 12 months of this current Leo-Jupiter eclipse cycle.
Also track back to August 1 2008 total solar south node eclipse at ten degrees Leo — Jupiter was off duty and fallen in Capricorn, so the comparison lacks the Fairy Godfather element entirely. but still. The year that followed that eclipse may hold clues to some similar life changes in this current cycle.
For example, from my Aquarius rising, Leo is a relationship/marriage house. The total solar eclipse with a south node letting go of August 2008, led to two things. The end of an 18 month dating relationship and the meeting a a new partner three months after the eclipse, who would eventually become my second husband.
The 1990 August eclipse with south node (and a bit of Jupiter) was lunar, and lunar can be about the home, and also about completions. Within six months of that eclipse there was a move to a new city based on my husband’s work (Leo 7th = spouse).
The value of a retrospective is the most important part of astrology. It shows us how history rhymes, and how we can use this pattern recognition to make sense of our lives - and what might happen - in the present time frame.
